Warwick Students’ Union’s Best Social Event of the Year 2011 is back.

Warwick Malaysia Night is not just an ordinary cultural event. It is the culmination of many months of hard work, ambition, belief and excitement by more than 100 of our members majestically merged together to produce the most comprehensively unforgettable display of Malaysian culture in the UK. 

Fittingly held in the Warwick Arts Centre, the largest Arts Centre in the West Midlands, we present to you an eye-opening night of surprises, culture, thrill and grandeur; Warwick Malaysia Night 2012: Echo.

“If your past comes back to haunt you, will you fight it, or run from it?”

The era is the 1950s. It was the near end of the Malayan Emergency, where tension was at an all-high between the National Army and the Communist Party. Life-threatening guerilla attacks are imminent and no one is safe. Imagine waking up in a hospital and realising that you have no recollection of your past. Where do you go from here?

This February 18th, join Lee Na in the midst of all the chaos, as she finds herself awake in a hospital, only to find that she has lost her precious memory from a gunshot to the head. With great determination in search for the truth, she goes back to her village and faces the many challenges presented to uncover her past. Why was she shot? Who can she trust apart from herself? An artistic and culturally-infused play of self-discovery, love, war and reflection, the echo of Lee Na’s past will never elude her for the memory of our past lives on forever.

IT IS CHINESE NEW YEAR and Warwick MSA is going to celebrate it with style. Presenting “Loong” Chinese New Year Social!

I am sure all you guys had a great night celebrating Chinese new year eve. Still, this is something you DO NOT want to miss out! With even more food, even more drinks, even more friends and a movie screening of Ip Man 2, we will make our little Chinatown in Warwick University. So remember, set a reminder on your calendar or something if it helps, come and join us! And don’t forget to wear your beautiful or stylish traditional clothes.

WELCOME BACK and here comes Term 2!

Last term, Warwick MSA organized an end-of-term social to wrap up an exciting term 1. Tea snacks such as scones, donuts, sandwiches, and hot tea, are served. A movie is also being screened for the members and guests present for the party. The theme of the social was Moustache Bash. People present had the choice to draw moustache based on their creativity and the most creative moustache will be awarded.

It was a time for everyone to finally sit down, relax, and socialize as a hectic term 1 came to a close. It was a last social event before most of us went back to Malaysia for the holidays.

On the 16th of November 2011, Warwick MSA organized a Hari Raya Haji and Deepavali Social which attracted more than 200 people. We are extremely delighted as those who turned up are not only Malaysians, but also other nationalities who are curious and would like to know more about the Malaysia culture.

A festival celebration cannot happen without delicious, mouth-watering food. The Warwick MSA estimated and prepared sufficient food for the event. The main dishes are:

Once again, the Warwick MSA committee would like to thank ALL members who came for the social. It will not be a successful an enjoyable event without your active participation.

The largest annual Malaysian sport event ended on the 12th of November. Warwick MSA sent out 11 teams for the event and participated in games such as badminton, football, table tennis, squash, netball, volleyball, lightning chess, lightning snooker, scrabble, congkak, batu seremban.

It was an exciting event especially for the freshers as they had an opportunity to visit Nottingham University as well. The Warwick MSA was assigned a booth to advertise our MNight 2012. The outcome was fairly satisfying with lots of positive feedbacks regarding the beautiful bookmark design. The bookmark is an idea which our president came up with. It contains all the information about out MNight, including the date, time, and location. It was a success, noticing the high amount of people asking for the bookmarks.

This year Nottingham Games was challenging for us. The most anticipated matches were the basketball, football, volleyball, and badminton. We had tough draws. One of them was the matchup against the University of Leeds in the basketball competition. It was unlucky for our basketball team to get kicked out of the competition due to an unfortunate lose to Leeds.

IT IS COMING! The biggest event of the year for MSA — The Malaysia Night 2012. It is the time you to showcase your talents and creativity. We are already having recruitments for the Malaysia Night team and the performers on stage. If both of these still do not satisfy your ambitious appetite, NOT TO WORRY! Here it is.

Warwick MSA Committee is now organizing a logo design competition for Malaysia Night 2012. This is the time for your creativity to flow and get recognized. The winning logo is based on creativity.

Objective:

Rules for the competition:

1. Entries must be INDIVIDUAL. (No group work is allowed. Each logo can only be under one name.)

2. Each logo must contain the words ‘Warwick Malaysia Night‘

3. Each logo must incorporate Malaysian  elements.

Prizes:

1. Becomes the founder of the Official Malaysia Night 2012 logo.

2. Your picture and logo will be displayed on the website.

3. You will also be mentioned in the programme booklet.

On the 22nd of October 2011, Warwick MSA organized an one-day trip to Bicester Village. We managed to attract a bus full of enthusiastic MSA members. It is a short bus ride to Bicester Village. Once we reached Bicester Village, we started shopping. There are many fashion outlets such as Burberry, Superdry, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein Underwear, etc.

Bicester Village is not just about shopping, it also offers fantastic food for hungry shoppers. Busaba Eathai is one of the many restaurants there in Bicester Village.

We can see that the members enjoyed themselves by the amount of shopping bags they had in their hands. Overall, the trip to Bicester Village is successful as everyone enjoyed the shopping opportunity.

Finally, the Warwick MSA would like to thank everyone who had come for this trip. It will not be this successful and enjoyable without the participation of you guys.

Here are some updates in case you missed a few of our October events!

Freshers’ Campus and Coventry Tour
The Freshers’ Tour was held on October  8th where 39 freshers were shown around our beautiful Warwick campus, including places like the Cryfield Pavilion, Tocil Woods, Cannon Park, University House, Westwood Games Hall and many others. A giant thank you to the seniors who volunteered to help guide the freshers around.
Everyone then adjourned to Cosmo Restaurant in Coventry for a buffet lunch before the Coventry city tour commenced!
 Thank you to everyone for participating, we hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves!

Traffic Light Welcome Party
As the first Meet & Greet social of the academic year, MSA held a Traffic Light Party on the 12th of October in MS.02 to officially welcome all the freshers and also to welcome back all the returning seniors. It was free for all members as well as Malaysian, Singaporean and Bruneian freshers. On the menu were Nasi Briyani, Rendang, Mee Goreng and Banana Cake that (we trust) kept everyone happy! It was so nice to see all 250 attendees dressed in traffic light colours and mingling. Thank you to everyone who came, with MSA you know there are more free food socials to come! :)

MSA Traffic Light Welcome Party
You are cordially invited to MSA’s annual Meet n Greet event, only this time, we’re turning it into our first ever traffic light party!
Theme: For those of you who don’t know what a traffic light party is, it’s where you wear colours that indicate your relationship status (Red: Taken, Yellow: ‘It’s Complicated’, Green: Single).

- Free for all Warwick MSA Members, Malaysian freshers, Singaporean freshers and Bruneian freshers
