For the Artsy!

Malaysian Night – This is it; the big daddy of all MSA events. So big, it even has its own page on this website. For the uninitiated, every university in the UK that has a large enough Malaysian community holds an annual Malaysia Night. Traditionally, Warwick’s Malaysia Night (or Mnight for short) incorporates a play, dances highlighting Malaysia’s cultural aspects, musical performances, and of course, Warwick’s renowned Dikir Barat team. Why renowned? Well, we do have the best Dikir Barat in the UK, after all. Don’t believe us? Check us out on Youtube.

Charity Gig Night - Fancy a chance to strut your stuff on your guitar, and sing us a few of your homemade songs? This is it. How about Malaysian food to psych you up before the show, and knowing that all proceeds go to charity to make you feel good after? Yes that’s right. Not only do you get to perform or cheer for your performing friends, you get to menjamu selera with onde-onde, nasi lemak, and so forth. All this under the cosy ambience of yellow lighting! This year all these delicious treats were made under the supervision of our own Gordon Ramsay- none other than Hazim. All proceeds also went to ORBIS.

For the Sporty!

Warwick Games -  Not to be forgotten amidst the food, music and fun are sports. Forget about the Freshman Fifteen with our annual sports fair, certain to evoke some (hopefully) fond memories of your Hari Sukan-s during primary and secondary school, except without the colorful T-shirts. The main games are netball and football, and more than 10 universities regularly attend Warwick Games every year.

Weekly Sports Sessions – Smaller-scale sporting events are also held a couple of times every week in collaboration with Singsoc and Bruwick. Not only will it be a great way to  work off those fish and chip calories, but these meets will surely prove to be an even better way to meet new people.

For the Foodies!

Well, practically every MSA social has food to accompany it. Be it the Welcome/Raya Social, the Happy Holidays Social, the post-Mnight Social – if it’s not Kak Shida’s packets of nasi beriani or tomato rice, it’s Gogo’s Chicken. Ah yes, Gogo’s Chicken – the backbone of most MSA gatherings. Its lacklustre appearance definitely belies the juicy goodness that oozes out of the tender chicken flesh soon as you set your teeth upon it. Some claim it’s better than KFC. Some claim it’s all organic chicken ; ). Mystified? Come try it all yourself.

Beyond the Warwick Bubble

Warwick MSA also strutted our stuff in the UK’s largest student-run festival, One World Week. The fashion show, where each cultural society showcases its native costumes, is where we normally shine, but as more and more talent comes into Warwick, expect to see the MSA getting more involved with OWW cultural performances and food events as well! SoulAsia Food Fest, dikir performances…

As if that weren’t enough, our MSA participates regularly in inter-university events as well. Watching other Mnight performances is merely the tip of the iceberg; competitions such as the Nottingham Games often draw busloads of Warwick MSA students. What better excuse to visit a long-lost (okay, maybe since college, but hey, that’s a long time) friend than to follow an MSA sports delegation?
