  • Electoral list of all candidates will be posted online on MSA’s website and sent via newsletter by 12pm on the 10th of May for members’ viewing.

MANIFESTO

  • All candidates are encouraged to produce a short, one-page OPTIONAL manifesto.
  • A manifesto is a document describing what you plan to do upon election. You can either submit your manifesto to us at warwickmsaelections2012@gmail.com so we can print it out and distribute it for you during the AGM, or present it yourself using the projector during your speech.
  • If you wish to submit it to us for printing please do so by 12 NOON on the day of the AGM (10th MAY 2012) so we have time to print it out.

THE ELECTION

The Election will be chaired by a Chairperson. Voting will commence in the following order:

  1. President
  2. Vice President
  3. Secretary
  4. Treasurer
  5. Cultural Officer
  6. Sports Officer

Before voting for a post begins, each candidate for that post will be granted an opportunity to give a speech (see below) to the members. Immediately after each speech, the Chairperson will allow members of the floor to ask the candidate a number (to be determined by the Chairperson) of questions.

RUNNING FOR OTHER POSITIONS

Candidates who are unsuccessful at a position may choose to run for subsequent positions provided that their name is on the Electoral List. For example, an unsuccessful President candidate may run for Vice President only if he/she has validly submitted his nomination for Vice President.

SPEECHES

Below are the time allocations for the speeches:

President – 5 min

Vice President – 5 min

Secretary – 5 min

Treasurer – 5 min

Sports Officer – 5 min

Cultural Officer – 5 min

A candidate may speak only once during the election process. For example, if you are unsuccessful at your bid for the Vice President, you will not be granted the opportunity to speak again for the subsequent roles you choose to run for. E.g: Secretary, etc. However, there will be a Q&A session.

THE VOTING

Members are allowed to vote only once for any post. Voting will be carried out anonymously via voting slips. The results of an election will be announced before the elections for the next post commences.

OTHER INFORMATION

Candidates or potential candidates are highly encouraged to approach the relevant executive committee member to obtain a better picture of his/her prospective position. This is so he/she will be better prepared for the elections, especially the occasionally gruelling Q&A session.
