The first ever MSA fresher’s camp held at the Nur Lembah Pangsun Eco-resort was a HUGE success.

A big thank you goes out to all seniors for making this possible and all participants for their awesome participation.

We had an awesome time building our own rafts, jungle trekking, cooking our own lunch, and so much more and I’m sure that through these 3 days 2 nights, we have formed very strong bonds which will last for a very long time.

On top of that, the seniors have also shared their invaluable experience and knowledge with the freshers. Touching on topics such as accommodation, what to expect, weather, packing, and the list goes on.

Overall, I’m sure everyone who attended the camp will agree that we have achieved our objective of the camp which is to form bonds from right here in Malaysia to better prepare everyone for Warwick, because it is a jungle out there ^^

With this, I proudly welcome 24 new members into our MSA family!

Nottingham Games 2009 was definitely one memorable day. Our contingent of two buses left Warwick at 6am- we were sleepy, half-soaked for those without umbrellas, but nevertheless in high spirits and decked in our bright red shirts and hoodies! Some of us left for Nottingham early before the weekend.

We are proud to have sent players for football, netball, basketball, badminton, squash, snooker, tennis, pingpong, chess, batu seremban and even congkak!

Effort, teamwork and time well-spent training was rewarded by the victories of our netball team and squash for girls by Ng Hui Mei – both champs. Our footballers also did a great job by going into the quarter finals against Manchester Metropolitan University. On top of it all, we are awarded for being the most sporting contingent of all MSAs in the UK. Well done everyone!

Nothing could have beat the sight of red-clad Warwick supporters cheering their hearts out for our teams all the way through.

The day in Nottingham was perfected by the presence of Malaysian food, and, as anticipated, everyone  indeed succumbed to the irresistible food. A stall opened by our own MSA members definitely was one of the most popular stalls around!

We would like to congratulate our players for their participation and extend one big BIG thank you to everyone who attended or supported, in any way, the Warwick MSA contingent to Nottingham Games 2009!

See you guys on the bus next year!

September 11 was a significant date, and not just for that reason. It was also the day of a makan specially organised for our incoming freshers to meet up and get to know one another! Of course, as it turns out, most of them already do know one another.

The get-together was held at Original Kayu at SS2. It lasted for a whole 4 hours or so, with a group of about 10 freshers staying all the way till the end to chat with us old decrepit seniors.

About 50 freshers out of the 100 or so entrants turned up for the event. There are quite a number of freshers doing A&F, as per usual, and Econs, no surprise there. Also, there were a good number of MORSE students, and a smattering of lawyers to be.

Given the large number of freshers who turned up, it was hence logistically impossible to extend the invitation MSA-wide, though we very much wanted to do so. No matter – the Welcome Raya Social looms ahead – and this time, everyone is welcome!

Well, enough of my prattling – let the pictures do the talking. If you see any of them on campus, do remember to wave and say hi!

Sep 152008

On the 23rd of August Warwick MSA held it’s first ever Orientation in Malaysia. The inaugural Orientation event was put together in hopes of bringing together the Malaysian seniors and the new freshers and getting to know each other a little better before making our way back to the UK.

After much running around and planning, Saturday came and the seniors waited eagerly for the new students to turn up. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances, there were a lot of last minute pull-outs on the new students’ side. However, this did not dampen anybody’s mood – the ice breaking games were carried out smoothly with everybody in teams doing a myriad of things like sifting through flour to look for clues and bursting balloons. A bit childish perhaps but everyone had fun embracing the little kid in them :) The freshers (as well as some seniors) were given a chance to learn some facts about the university in a short trivia session whilst some seniors got to show off their general knowledge (or lack thereof) of the university.

After the ice-breaking games came the main activity – MSA’s very own LRT Amazing Race! At the Taman Paramount LRT station which was the starting point, everyone (excluding a few game facilitators) were broken up into teams of 4. Each team was given a clue sheet containing extremely difficult riddles which would lead them to the next station of their destination once they figured out the answer. Needless to say, all the teams were cracking their skulls trying to decipher the clues, hoping on and off the LRT at numerous stations. After a tiring but fun adventure along the LRT Putra line, everyone retired for lunch at A & W next to the Asia Jaya Station which was the last station in the Race.

All in all, Orientation was a success! Everybody had loads of fun and that’s what matters. The MSA committee would like to thank everybody who came and participated in the activities. Also, we would like to thank those who were involved in the planning of the Orientation and those who helped plan the activities (especially the LRT Amazing Race).

Hope to see you guys soon in the UK!
