Warwick Malaysia Games 2011 is just right around the corner, and it’s happening one week after All England Badminton Championship! First time ever in Malaysian Games history, we will be having Ultimate Frisbee and Touch Rugby as part of the games. We are also offering our very own brand new MSA Football cup, MSA Netball cup and Touch Rugby Vice-President Shield!

For students from Warwick University, what better way to start your Easter Break by battling it out on the courts? If you just want to experience a day of being in a Hari Sukan mood and cheer your hearts out for your friends on the court, just bring yourself to University of Warwick Sports Centre, Westwood Games Hall, Frisbee pitch, Astro pitches and Xcel Leisure Centre (netball) and enjoy some LIPS-SMACKING Malaysian food, which will be sold at Westwood Lecture Hall.

For students from other universities, it’s a great opportunity for you to meet up with your friends from all over the UK, indulge in authentic delicious Malaysian food,  and also compete to win the medals, trophies and the titles! Also you get to visit our beautiful campus during Spring, which looks really pretty. Registrations deadline is on the 16th of March (Wednesday)! We are thrilled to have sent players for every single sport at NMG 2010 (football, basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, squash, table tennis, lightning snooker, lightning chess, scrabble, congkak and batu seremban). A big thank you to each player for representing Warwick, your efforts are immensely appreciated!

Our tireless Warwick supporters also definitely made an impression as we (in our red attires) were one of the loudest contingents there continually chanting and spurring on our teams by the sideline. On top of that, we had a huge red Team Warwick banner which undeniably stuck out in a crowd.

As for the sports sessions, please be punctual as bookings are hard to get.

So yeah, your sports reps have made the effort to book the courts for the sports, so it’s all up to you to turn up and come enjoy the sports sessions!

We are proud to have sent players for football, netball, basketball, badminton, squash, snooker, tennis, pingpong, chess, batu seremban and even congkak!

Effort, teamwork and time well-spent training was rewarded by the victories of our netball team and squash for girls by Ng Hui Mei – both champs. Our footballers also did a great job by going into the quarter finals against Manchester Metropolitan University. On top of it all, we are awarded for being the most sporting contingent of all MSAs in the UK. Well done everyone!

Nothing could have beat the sight of red-clad Warwick supporters cheering their hearts out for our teams all the way through.

The day in Nottingham was perfected by the presence of Malaysian food, and, as anticipated, everyone  indeed succumbed to the irresistible food. A stall opened by our own MSA members definitely was one of the most popular stalls around!

Exciting times!

Our first MSA field trip – to Notts on Saturday! Here are some details:

DRESS CODE:

RED SHIRT/TOP. This applies to BOTH supporters and athletes – athletes you can change to whatever team uniform you have after the opening ceremony. (Last year we got an award for being the most uniform contingent :D)

We shall be leaving from Nottingham at approximately 8.00 PM. Meeting time and place shall be announced on the bus.

The journey will take about 2 hours.

Remember to wear red!

Anyway, the Warwick MSA contingent was up at ungodly hours (i.e. 6am) to catch the coach to Nottingham on the 8th of November. Footballers, netballers, basketballers, badminton players, snooker players, chess players and scrabble players all trudged onto the bus sleepy-eyed but by the time we reached Nottingham, we were all wide-eyed and determined to give it all our best and bring glory to Warwick MSA! Although it did rain intermittently throughout the day, I’m proud to say that the spirit of our members were not dampened. All the sportsmen and sportswomen of MSA were not going to let their prior training go to waste and we’re proud to say that each and everyone of them put up a good fight against their respective competitiors.

At the end of the day, we are very proud to say that Warwick MSA managed to get into the finals for Netball and clinch the 1st runner-up position! It was a heated game between Warwick Team A and Nottingham; the tension in the hall was high. We could see the weariness in the netballers but their eyes showed that they were determined to see the game through and could still go strong. Kudos to all the netball players! Aside from netball, for the first time, Warwick MSA also managed to make a name for ourselves in the chess arena; Joel who was one of the chess players managed to get a Bronze! As a bonus, Warwick MSA also managed to win the “Best Dressed Contingent” award because most of us were wearing red.

Warwick MSA would like to congratulate all the sportsmen and sportswomen for their efforts. We’re all very proud of you! We would also like to say a big thank you to the supporters; you guys rock!! Nottingham Games wouldn’t have been the same without your cheers and encouragement. Also, we would like to thank our Sports Officers Jackie and Anthony for their hard work in getting everyone together for Nottingham Games 2008.
