Warwick Malaysia Night 2012

In 2011, the Warwick Malaysian Night was an amazing success, having won the Warwick Students’ Union’s Best Social Event of the Year 2011 award.

On the 18th February 2012, Warwick Malaysian Night 2012 was held in the Butterworth Hall of the Warwick Arts Centre with the title of ‘Warwick Malaysian Night: Echo’. Unlike last year, a variety of dances are incorporated into the play to add on to the dynamic of the play and to give a different kind of experience for the audiences.

The night was simply remarkable.

Sabahan Dance

The excitement never end for the audiences. The night started off with the Sabahan Dance. The audiences are impressed with their skills and are pumped up by the catchy beats. It was a perfect start to an incredible night. The play followed up after the performance. It revolves around a girl named Lee Na, who found herself waking up in a hospital with a memory lost. The play takes place in during the Malayan Emergency as Lee Na starts her journey of self-discovery.

There was also a lucky draw where one fortunate audience was chosen to win 2 free flight tickets to Portugal.

Thank you everyone!

The Warwick Malaysian Students’ Association would like to thank each and every one who have been involved in making Warwick Malaysia Night 2012 a success, regardless you are performing, working backstage, or attending. We are delighted to have shared this Warwick Malaysia Night experience with you.

Last but not least, we would like to thank all our VIPs. Among them include Dato’ Seri Nazri Aziz (Minister in the Prime Minister Department of Malaysia) and his entourage, His Excellency Datuk Zakaria Sulong (High Commissioner to Britain), Ms. Sharon Ho (Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia UK), Professor Koen Lamberts (Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic Resourcing of University of Warwick) and Lady Godiva of Coventry.

Our special guests for the night were the real heroes of Malaysia. They are  the 38 ex-British Soldiers who served in Malaysia in the past, represented by the Leicester and Nottingham branches of the National Malaya and Borneo Veteran Association (NMBVA).

Here is what they have to say after the event:

I would like to thank you on behalf of the Leicester Branch NMBVA for last night. Everyone enjoyed your production; especially the different ethnic dances, which brought a lot of old memories flooding, back. One member commented that when he heard the rain and lightning at the start of the show he felt as if he was back in the jungle.

We were all struck by the obvious enjoyment that all the cast got from their performance.

Good look to both you and your friends in the future and we look forward to hearing from you next year when we hope that you invite us to attend once more.”

- Owen Lawrence, Chairman, Leicester NMBVA

Once again, thank you so much for taking part in this momentous event!

A Trip to Bicester Village. Shopping Spree!

On the 22nd of October 2011, Warwick MSA organized an one-day trip to Bicester Village. We managed to attract a bus full of enthusiastic MSA members. It is a short bus ride to Bicester Village. Once we reached Bicester Village, we started shopping. There are many fashion outlets such as Burberry, Superdry, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein Underwear, etc.

Bicester Village is not just about shopping, it also offers fantastic food for hungry shoppers. Busaba Eathai is one of the many restaurants there in Bicester Village.

We can see that the members enjoyed themselves by the amount of shopping bags they had in their hands. Overall, the trip to Bicester Village is successful as everyone enjoyed the shopping opportunity.

Finally, the Warwick MSA would like to thank everyone who had come for this trip. It will not be this successful and enjoyable without the participation of you guys.

Freshers Camp 2011 Update

Thank you for coming for MSA’s 2nd Annual Freshers Camp! :)

We hope you had an unforgettable fun-filled weekend, meeting other Warwick freshers, getting to know your seniors, learning about life at Warwick and the UK, while sweating it out in the various (sometimes seemingly impossible) outdoor activities held!

Congratulations to the winning team ‘Char Kuey Teow’, consisting of Chew Pei Shen, Tee Tze Li, Chan Yi Sze, Lu Sher Wen and Ding Ju Shuen!

Thank you seniors, for taking the time to help out and share your knowledge and experiences through the information sessions!

And of course, thank you freshers, for taking the initiative to attend the camp and for having an open mind throughout. We sincerely hope you learnt a lot from that weekend and we very much look forward to seeing you in Warwick! :)
